EV charger installation questions
Still have a question? Call (877) 960-1122 or email info@leftcoastelectric.com.
Do you install EV chargers at homes in San Dimas?
Yes. Left Coast Electric installs Level 2 EV chargers for homes in San Dimas and across Southern California, including Claremont, La Verne, Glendora, Covina and Pomona. Every installation starts with a check of your electrical panel and existing load.
What is a Level 2 EV charger?
A Level 2 charger runs on a 240-volt circuit, the same voltage used by an electric dryer or range. It charges an EV much faster than a standard 120-volt household outlet (Level 1 charging).
Why do you check the panel and load before installing a charger?
An EV charger is a large, long-running load on its own dedicated circuit. Checking your panel's rating, open space and existing load first confirms the charger can run safely without overloading the panel.
Do I need a panel upgrade to install an EV charger?
Not always. It depends on your panel's capacity and how much of it your home already uses. The load check shows whether the charger fits on your existing panel or whether a panel or service upgrade comes first.
Can you supply the charger, or install one I already bought?
Either. We can supply the charger, or install a charger you provide. Either way, we start with a check of your electrical panel and existing load.
Should I get a hardwired charger or a 240-volt outlet?
Both are options. A hardwired charger connects directly to its dedicated circuit; a plug-in charger connects to a 240-volt outlet. We will recommend the setup based on your charger's requirements and your panel.
Does a home EV charger installation need a permit?
Usually. Many cities require an electrical permit for a new EV charger circuit, and requirements vary by city. If a service upgrade is needed, the utility is also involved, which is Southern California Edison in most of our area. We will tell you what your installation needs.
Do you install EV charging for apartments and condos?
Yes. We work with property managers on EV charging for multifamily properties, starting with a check of the building's electrical capacity and the circuits available.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. Estimates for EV charger installation are free. Call (877) 960-1122 or use our contact page to request one.
